Starting July 29, 2022, YouTube is making subscriber counts visible. Currently channels can hide their subscriber count on YouTube.
In order to prevent people from impersonating other creators, YouTube channels will no longer be able to hide their subscriber counts.
The YouTube company says that displaying all channels’ subscribers makes impersonating others more difficult.

Many creators prefer to hide their subs count as they strive to grow their audience.
It has been a long-standing problem on YouTube to deal with comment spam. YouTube has implemented 3 changes to control spam, in an effort to protect creators and viewers, and also to make it more difficult to impersonate creators.
